Welcome

Penny Korethoski is proud to bring a new level of canine training to the Kootenays. Offering group classes, private training sessions, and puppy classes, there is a training class for all ages and levels of education of dog.

Penny is an ABC certified trainer. her focus is on using positive motivation techniques to allow your dog to learn the desired behavior, while keeping the session both fun and educational for your four-legged friend. Behaviors are taught through the principles of luring, shaping, capturing, and molding.

Whether you are looking for a fresh start with your new puppy, or are wanting to overcome a challenging behavioral issue, P.E.T.S is eager to help you achieve a higher level of education and understanding for both dog and owner!

My Pawlosiphy

P.E.T.S is introducing a new training service in town, offering basic training for dogs of all ages and those specific issues that may require more attention. P.E.T.S will help shape your dog's behaviour with the right type of motivation and through the use of positive reinforcement we will get the performance you are looking for. An important thing to remember is through patience and consistency you will find success... "Mind over Manners" is my personal slogan because I feel that if you get them in the right state of mind you can get them to have the right set of manners. I am looking forward to meeting the dog's of the Kootenays as I know there are a lot of you out there.

"Obedience is the key fundamental in any dog's life"

Vaccine Requirements

The vaccine requirements for the puppy and adult classes are to ensure they have either their first vaccination (for puppies under 10 weeks) or the bordetella vaccination and second set (for adults or puppies older than 12 weeks). Often dogs are given their first vaccine from the breeder. This means the bordetella can be given as early as 10 weeks.

What Do They Really Need?

P.E.T.S requires the first set of shots, with or without bordetella (kennel cough). P.E.T.S believes the most effective learning stage is between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks (2-4 months) therefore, we believe the benefits of early socialization far out ways the small risk associated with kennel cough. It is important to note however, that P.E.T.S. believes that animals should still receive their vaccines as early as recommended by your veterinarian because most boarding or doggy day cares do require both sets and the bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine. It should also be noted that the more your dog is exposed to different and busy environments, the higher chance they have of contracting these viruses.

Group class structure is on a 4 week schedule attending one day a week. This follows the developmental stages that dogs go through early in their lives...

Studies show improved training effiency, as well as bettered social development of the dogs on a 4 week program. For puppies, the general socialization period begins at 7 weeks and goes through to 16 weeks. This early stage of development is the most important time in their lives as they are at their most impressionable. Positive varied experiences create a well socialized animal.
