"Life is like a dogsled team. If you ain’t the lead dog, the scenery never changes." - Lewis Grizzard

What Age Should They Be?

Penny is often asked what age is best to start training. Ideally, you should start anywhere from 8-16 weeks, but your dog will benefit at any age. Training stimulates the mind just as much as the body.

Level 1 - Foundation Building

Ultimately, training should begin in the puppy phase. If at all possible, achieving basic commands through positive reinforcement exercises will ensure obedience for life. You are your dog’s pack leader; he or she will constantly look to you for guidance. Puppy-training can be very enjoyable, especially with Penny’s training tips. A good foundation will lead to a full and rewarding life with your dog. Both the mind and body of your pet will benefit from training.

Level 2 - Fine Tuning

If you “missed the boat” with puppy training, fear not! Obedience CAN be enhanced and achieved at any age. This level also kicks it up a notch, adding additional skills as well as a bomb-proof Recall. Besides adding to basic commands, P.E.T.S can instil advanced skills that will further your dog’s performance and obedience. Adolescence in dogs is a fun and challenging time. The benefits for your dog’s willingness to comply with your commands through Penny’s training techniques will exceed your expectations.

Level 3 - Boot Camp

If you have confidently trained your dog but still think he or she could benefit from further training, Penny can add skills by introducing distractions and obstacles while deepening your pet’s obedience. She takes what you’ve learned in levels 1 and 2 and adds to the training through a fun exercise program. Consider it like a boot camp for dogs! Even if you simply need a refresher course, this is the one for you.

Behavioural Consultation

Dog training can be a fun time for both you and your pet. However, if you do feel that your dog might need extra help to curb unwanted behaviour, Penny is available for a consultation. She will come to you, to see first-hand the issues that your dog is displaying. Problem dogs aren’t bad dogs; they are merely pets who need more guidance towards optimal behaviour. Consultations can be long. In order for Penny to fully appreciate your dog’s unique needs in dog-training, an initial consult at no charge will be held before she helps guide you in your final decision in training your dog.

Clinics

Are you an avid outdoorsy type who wants to include your pet in every activity you love to do? Throughout the year, P.E.T.S will offer different clinics such as kayaking, back-country skiing and hiking with your dog. Weight loss clinics will also be held for our four-legged pals who need to lose health-damaging weight. Please check back for dates and times of these clinics.

Private Lessons

If, by chance, you are unable to attend the various clinics or group lessons, P.E.T.S does offer private lessons.
